The South African Flavor
As South African immigrants to the U.S. in 1976, my brother and I watched my father leave everything behind except his business knowledge and South African culture. This included a 17th-century recipe for making "Biltong", which is Dutch for "rump" (bil) "strip" (tong) - similar to what American's affectionately call their version of "beef jerky".
Biltong is an under-marketed gourmet snack with taste and nutritional value far superior to its American counterpart. So addictive is this snack that fellow South Africans are always running out to try to find a replacement bag, and Americans who taste it have nowhere to turn except back to their plastic, processed pieces of dried beef.
So we launched Biltong Brothers - a subscription-based "South African Beef Jerky" company delivering gourmet beef snacks to the soon-to-be suspecting (if we have anything to do with it) American marketplace.
